Dear Guests of Festival No.6,
First of all we would like to thank you for booking tickets and coming to Festival No.6. This was our fifth festival and undoubtedly the most challenging given the situation with the extreme weather conditions. Whilst we worked hard to ensure the festival was not affected by the wind and the rain, we did unfortunately have some major issues at park and ride causing severe delays and an ordeal for many of you. For that we are sincerely sorry.
The weather was far more extreme than forecast causing the River Glaslyn to burst its bank. Once we understood the magnitude of the situation we acted as quickly as possible deploying 22 tractors and 20 4x4s to assist with the recovery. We also put in extra welfare and toilet facilities to ensure people waiting were as comfortable as could be.
When we first started organising Festival No.6 five years ago we soon realised that although it is one of the most beautiful sites in the world it is also a very complex site to run a festival on. Portmeirion Village simply is not equipped to take a large volume of vehicles making the park and ride a necessity. With the support of the authorities and the Safety Advisory Group we have used Porthmadog Rugby club car park for the last four years without any issues. This year, together with our partners, we were advised by the land owners that the site drained well and there were no advance flood warnings or intervention from other agencies. We contacted Natural Resources Wales and arranged preventative measures as well as investing heavily in extra infrastructure at the site, however, ultimately the extreme weather was beyond our control.
We are in the process of ensuring that everyone effected by the conditions last weekend are helped as swiftly as possible. If your vehicle has sustained any damage the festival is fully insured and will help you resolve any potential claim but we suggest you contact your motor insurance in the first instance to ensure your claim is processed quickly.
As we start planning for Festival No.6 next we will implement everything we have learnt from 2016 and we will ensure these issues do not happen again in the future. We work tirelessly year round to create one of the world’s best festivals and we are really saddened that not everyone had the experience we hoped.
