We are part of a number of initiatives that we strongly back and are proud to be a part of. As Clough Williams-Ellis once said, “Cherish the past, adorn the present, construct for the future”, these three pillars of the festival are pivotal and hope you will help us achieve the future we are striving for. Please digest the following pieces of information and learn more about our stance on some crucial initiatives.
Festival No.6 is delighted to announce that we are part of the Association of Independent Festival’s (AIF) Drastic on Plastic campaign to eliminate single-use plastics in festivals by 2021 – starting with banning all plastic straws from site this year.
More than 60 independent festivals are joining together to pledge the following:
“As an AIF member participating in this campaign, we the undersigned recognise the devastating impacts that the prolific use of single-use plastics is causing in the environment on a global scale. We also recognise the leadership role that festivals and events/the festival community can play in inspiring and driving forward positive, solutions-focused change towards a sustainable future. We pledge to eliminate single-use plastics (e.g bottles and straws) at our event(s) within 3 years by 2021, and to promote reuse solutions wherever practically possible.”
We believe in treating everyone equally and with the mutual respect each person deserves, so as members of The Association of Independent Festivals (AIF) we are part of Safer Spaces, a campaign to raise greater awareness about sexual violence across everyone from audiences to artists to staff and volunteers – and to spread some key messages around “consent”, about “not being a bystander” and to take a “zero tolerance” approach to all forms of sexual assault.
At No.6 we have a zero-tolerance policy towards any kind of sexual assault or harassment at our festival. We define sexual assault as “any unwanted sexual act or activity”. There are many different kinds of sexual violence including but not restricted to rape, sexual assault and sexual harassment.
Such actions and behaviour will not be tolerated at our event and suspects of such offences will be pursued and may be ejected from the festival. We will work with the police to support investigations and charging decisions.
If something happens to you, please report it to the nearest steward or security guard. More details on what support services will be available on site are coming soon.
Another initiative we are part of is Festival Safe, a cross-industry initiative designed by festival organisers and industry professionals. It aims to provide both first-time and regular attendees with the knowledge needed to reduce the harms associated with the festival experience.
Please visit the Festival Safe website to find out more. It features information on every aspect of festival-going, including what to know before going, camping, crime, drugs and alcohol, sexual health, mental health and more.
