Having performed under many guises across the years, British alternative luminary Tim Burgess is an honorary member of the Festival No.6 family, this year curating the Tim Peaks programme housed at The Dome Gallery. Looking ahead to 2016’s activates at Portmeirion, Tim shared six of his picks for the special weekend…
1) The Brythonaid Male Voice Choir
The Brythonaid Male Voice Choir fit into Portmeirion like part of the landscape, all 60 of them!
2) A Certain Ratio
As relevant and vital as ever but with a back catalogue that seems to be older than the band members look. Always a joyful experience watching them!
3) Beds in Parks
At this very moment they are my favourite new band – hints of Mazzy Star and some C86 sensibilities but doing their own thing too.
4) Tim Burgess and Peter Gordon
So I have a bit of a dilemma – if I recommend that you come and see myself and Peter Gordon, it might seem a little crass and big headed. Then again if I don’t, it might seem that I’m saying I wouldn’t recommend that you came to see us. I’m definitely saying you should. We made an album together and I think you’ll like it.
5) Cabbage
Once seen never forgotten. Their live shows are like a firework display when you don’t quite know where the fireworks are.
6) Dr John Cooper Clarke
How could you not watch John Cooper Clarke when you are in the same place as he? Never before or since has bleak social commentary been so hilarious. All hail Doctor John Cooper Clarke.
Tim Burgess performs The Estuary Stage, Saturday.
