Welcome to a festival like no other, in the most stunning festival setting in the world.
On its own peninsula in Snowdonia, the picturesque Italianate village of Portmeirion is our home and was the original inspiration behind our desire to create a completely new type of festival.
A completely unique setting for a festival, Portmeirion is a fantasy village that founder Sir Clough William Ellis spent half a century constructing, from 1925-1975. The whole village has been Grade II listed since 1973 and a designated Conservation Area since 1993. It’s easy to be overwhelmed when you arrive here for the first time, surrounded by stunning surreal architecture and sub-tropical vegetation and the rugged beauty of Snowdonia. You immediately know you are somewhere very special. No wonder Lonely Planet made Portmeirion one of the best 500 places on the planet to visit in their Ultimate Travelist. Rest assured the novelty never wears off, we’ve been coming here for years and we still make new discoveries each time we visit.
The fantasy, fairytale village feel of Portmeirion and Sir Clough’s hope that it would become a haven for artists was our original inspiration when creating a festival like no other. We wanted Festival No.6 to be the ultimate escape from reality, a place where everyone leaves refreshed and inspired, having taken part in a unique and otherworldly experience. We also try to ensure the artists are as inspired as the audience, giving them the opportunities to present new work and collaborations in unique, intimate venues.
It’s why Beck told the No.6 crowd: “This is the coolest, most surrealist, funkiest, freakiest, best festival in the world…” and why Pet Shop Boys called their collaboration with a Welsh male voice choir at No.6 “definitely a career highlight”.
Everything about No.6 is focused on allowing you to lose yourself in your own fairytale, where you play the leading role. You can sleep in a castle or a cottage, a boutique tipi or tent. See an intimate spoken word performance in the Dome Art Gallery, a 70-piece Welsh choir with a combined age of 4,562 on the Piazza, catch the magical No.6 ensemble in the historic Town Hall, lose yourself in a hidden rave in the Tangled Woods or on the floating dancefloor in the middle of the Chinese Lake, join the incredible Carnival No.6 or the wonderful torchlit procession. Spend the weekend discovering an award-winning eclectic mix of screenings, live rescores, performance art, installations, talks, cabaret, comedy, and much more. At any time, you can take a few hours out by chilling in our luxury spa, or taking a yoga class or mindfulness in our wellness retreat, or strolling the sandy shore or even through the 70 acres of exotic woodland that surround Portmeirion.
We’ve put 30 years of events and festival experience into creating the UK’s most unique festival experience, and every year we refine and add to the experience, to make sure it stands alone as the UK’s finest music, arts and culture festival.
